Pinterest Inspiration

Despite living and loving New England with all our hearts, sometimes we just have to say enough is enough! Instead of all this white, we’re looking forward to all the beautiful sounds, smells, and colors of the Spring!

Meant for rebirth and renewable, the Spring is the perfect season to refresh your cozy home. So, open the windows, let the breeze flow through, and pack away all those warm, Winter sweaters . . .

Okay, that might be wishful thinking for now, but we can start with some indoor paint projects by injecting a little Spring onto our walls, furniture, and fabrics!

What are your favorite Spring color combinations?

Why not give yourself a present this year?

What holiday projects are you planning this year?

It’s that time of year where things may become hectic with the holidays rolling around the corner, but with all this time off from work – why not take advantage of the time and finally redo that basement or extra room!

As Better Homes and Gardens writes in their “Holiday Home Projects” article:

  • Basement Finishing

Whether your region brings ice and snow or clouds and rain during winter, chances are your outdoor living space will spend a good portion of the season out of commission. If your time indoors leaves you feeling a little crowded, look to your basement for room to roam. Finishing a basement offers a great way to extend your living space and also gives a higher return on investment than many other home projects. Whether you’re planning on selling your home come spring or you just need more space to live, consider finishing your basement.

Recommendations | A Beautiful Room, LLC

Our recent home renovation project required not only a decorator with vision, but someone who could coordinate with the builder and other contractors to make sure that the best materials were incorporated within our budget.  Nina McCarthy of A Beautiful Room, LLC, really came through for us.  During our work day, she was busy locating materials, talking with contractors and keeping us informed.  When we returned home she would organize bills for us, have materials for us to choose from and prepare us for the next steps.  When there were problems, Nina would readily take on the role of trouble-shooter.  A Beautiful Room is so much more than a decorating service.  It’s a full renovation coordinating service!

As our lives evolve, so should our interiors

Your home should be a reflection of your lifestyle and tell the ongoing story of the people who reside there.  As our lives evolve, so should our interiors . . .

When people move into their homes they decorate and paint and hang window treatments. Then the years go by and it is easy to leave things as they are.  Soon enough, your home becomes dated.  The window treatments are dated and the colors reflect on years past. With just a punch of color and texture and a new set of window treatments your home can be transformed!

Here are three great examples of rooms transformed and updated

Question + Answer with Nina McCarthy

As part of a fun interview held with Nina McCarthy of A Beautiful Room, LLC – located within the walls of Exeter Paint, I give you a sneak peek at some Q+A with the Norwegian-American interior decorator herself.

Full story to be featured later – keep an eye out for the links, readers!

Question: How did you end up at Exeter Paint?
Nina: All these years I’ve been working out of my house. I talked to Nicole and told her this is what I’m thinking and she said, “Well, why don’t you just work out of here? I’d love to have you here. You can help with color consultations, clients coming in . . .”

For the last 10 years it’s just been escalating and escalating. Now I’m here, working out of this space and I’m crazy busy.

The key thing is that I have networked myself with all these different people. I’m building relationships with these different people. We give each other jobs. I feel like every single person I’ve met along the way has helped me to get where I am today.

And you learn to trust yourself. I also worked two jobs for the longest time. I’ve been waiting on tables for 25 years more or less. But now I just do this fulltime.

Question: When did you make the plunge to fulltime Interior Decorator?
Nina: One year ago. I made a decision one night saying “if I’m going to make this work, it’s do or die. I’m going to just give this 110%” And when I didn’t have that extra income to fall back on you just go with it . .

When you’re good at something, don’t worry about the money, the money will come. But you can’t spread yourself too thin. And that’s what I was doing. I was constantly working at the restaurant and doing this (interior decorating) during the day and it was crazy. And I didn’t give this as much attention as it needed. I knew I had it all along.

Question: What’s the most rewarding part of your job?
Nina: The look on my clients faces when I’m done. Absolutely by far.  Janice Page – ABC Family project – I didn’t even know her that well, I just visited her house a couple of times and saw what they had and she gave me a budget. So I just went out, went shopping and instead of painting their walls, I just put everything together. Reuse and recycle. If I can just tweak it, I’ll do that. If I can spray paint it, I’ll do that. And I remember she came home after I was done and she like, “oh my god you are so great!” with big hugs.

So yes, definitely, that’s the most rewarding. Their approval, their outburst, and excitement about their new space. Because this is their home, and when you go into someone’s home you have to tread very carefully and be very respectful.

Question: Favorite magazine / website on design?
Nina: New England Design, Viranda, and Architectural Digest

Question: If money were no limit, what would you design?
Nina: A boarding school. A place landmark. On the ocean. A school for troubled kids or something like that. I could take from all my expertise and really make it a comfortable space for them. With bright colors and fun design. And probably within that school have a room where I can teach them about textures and colors because its all about touch and feel.
